Albert Martin
I came to America from Jamaica in 1998 hoping to find a better way of life. I started working as a delivery driver and then I worked as a driver for The Ride. Those jobs just were not cutting it for me and I knew that I had to move on to better things. I never finished my schooling when I was in Jamaica so I wasn't able to get a better job. That was when a friend referred me to X-Cel. I started in X-Cel in January of 2013 and after a few months passed the GED test. I knew that I wanted to get into the field of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), so I applied to Bay State School of Technology where I studied HVAC, Major Appliance and Domestic Appliance. I graduated from Bay State in February of 2014 and began work at Yale Appliance and Lighting in March of 2014. I really enjoy my new job and I am proud to have accomplished something that I have been wanting to do for a while.
Why were you interested in getting your GED?
I needed more job security, better pay, and a strong addition to my job applications. Many times I would have to skip the education section because I couldn't complete it.
How did X-Cel help you accomplish this goal?
They kept me on track. They helped me get over the first major obstacle standing between me and a better job.
Do you have any advice for people who are thinking about getting their HiSet?
Just do it. It is worth it. It is a great feeling to have that certificate in your hand. I feel like I am on top of the world now that I have it and have graduated from Bay State.
