Paula Coghiel-Davis
Paula was tired of working dead-end jobs and decided to go back to school to pursue a more meaningful career. She began X-Cel's HiSET Prep class in October 2014 after hearing about X-Cel from a friend. Paula graduated from X-Cel in May 2015. "The helpful, kind, and patient volunteers, along with advice from X-Cel's teacher and adviser, Mr. Kelly Folsom, helped me each step of the way."
Be patient and focus on the prize at the end.
In September 2015, Paula started classes in the Central Processing Certificate Program at Bunker Hill Community College. The program prepares students to become a Registered Central Processing Technicians and assume leadership roles within this field. Her motivation for entering the health care industry: "To gain financial stability by doing something I enjoy." In her first semester, Paula received two As and is not looking back; she plans to begin working in the field directly after graduation. She has particularly enjoyed Medical Terminology. "It is very interesting to learn about the body, how it functions, and the proper medical terms." The biggest take-away from her experience at BHCC thus far is that "persistence and hard work pay off no matter how old you are." This lesson is reflected in her advice to other students preparing for the HiSET exam or transitioning into college: "Be patient and focus on the prize at the end."
